Elizabeth Rusch serves on the faculty of the Attic Writers’ Workshop in Portland, Oregon. The heart of the Attic is the workshop: small, supportive and intensive. Liz teaches the Children’s Literature Workshop, Picture Book Intensive and Magazine Writing.
Children’s Literature
Tell a rich story just right for young readers. Whether you have an old children’s book manuscript you want to resurrect or a new children’s book manuscript that has captured your imagination, this workshop will provide a supportive, inspiring environment for you to develop your work. Through lively, positive discussion of your work-in-progress, you’ll learn special ways to use voice, character, structure, setting, plot, and the senses to tell a rich story just right for young readers. (Writers of board books, picture books, easy readers, middle grade, and YA fiction and nonfiction are welcome.)

Picture Book Intensive
Do you have an idea for a picture book that you've never had the chance to get on paper?
Or drafts of picture books that you want to polish and submit? Through studying the picture book form, reading successful picture books, doing writing exercises that help you develop your characters, narrative and voice, and by critiquing and having your work critiqued, this intensive picture book workshop will help you develop your picture book ideas into finished, polished manuscripts.

Magazine Writing
Grab this opportunity to take a class with a successful freelance writer. This workshop is for writers who care passionately about a particular subject and want to write about it in a way that will make others care about it too. Focused attention on your piece of writing, with emphasis on structure and style, plus research and publication ideas. If you want to place your writing in magazines that people read, this class will help you get there.
